12:44am: After much contemplating, I have decided that the eighth tutorial will feature commentary on bluffing. Playing solid heads up poker on a daily basis involves you bringing your “toolbox” with you, and bluffing is definitely an important, if not essential, part of your arsenal. Playing “ABC” poker can and will get you pretty far, but in order to maximize your potential you have to know when to make a good play. The most important part of bluffing is timing, without question and this will be examined in the next tutorial.
The eighth tutorial will be released on or before this upcoming Saturday.
In other news, this week has been very kind to me. I just won my fifth straight match to improve to 56-28 on the week. In case you’re keeping track, that’s a net profit of +$2,380 — and you’ll never hear me complain about that. This week has also helped me improve overall to 61.39% (win pct) in the $100s. Not bad, considering I finished my run in the $50s at a 61.01% (win pct).
More later..

Whats up Jason its Chance, my screenname was RIVERH8SME on stars. Havent talked to you in a while, not sure if you rememeber me or not but just re-registered on the site and wanted to say whats up and ask you a few questions. First of all, nice start to the 100s, sweet.
I dont know if you remember but I told u a few months ago I was ready to quit my job to try and do this for a living but I needed to make 6K/month to do it. Im glad to say that I cut my living expenese down considerably and have been making $2500/month plus on fulltilt for 3 months now. Now I know 3 months is no biggie at all but hey, Im pretty stoked right ow about it!!!!! I was playing on chancepayne1 on fulltilt (an account I opened up to get rakeback) but then fulltilt caught me and relegated me back to RIVERH8SME which Ive been on for the last 6-8 weeks. SO far Ive makin it and not to get all dramatic on you but your story and site have “inspired” me at times along the way and Id like to thank you for that.
Anyways, the question I have for you is, Whats the biggest losing streak or downswing youve experienced at any level. Recently I went thru a run where I was 12-15 thru 27 tournies but was still 27-23 for my last 50. My sharkscope restrictions are super-tight (almost fish only) as to who I lay so Im not sure Ill get in any type of slump that last longer than 30 tournies or so. I guess my question is, whats the longest stretch that you’ve ever been under .500 for??? Mine is about 30. Youve played probably 30 times as many 1-on-1 in your life as me, Id love to hear your worst run
cheque time…nice..
Thanks for the compliments Chance, and yes I remember you. The longest I have ever run bad for was about 200-250 games. For the duration of that run, hands had trouble holding, but I was still able to win about 40-45% of my matches at the time (which is better than totally laying an egg for 200 games). The worst run, financially, was a $3,000 downswing on Full Tilt over the course of about 125 games, where I got totally murdered to the tune of like a 30% win percentage during the time. In fact, I believe I was 30-70 at one point during that stretch.
During those times, you need to surround yourself with good people that care about you (my GF in my case). I also recommend having a sense of humor about it, no matter how bad it gets. When I’m running that bad, I start finding it funny, which is probably just a defense mechanism of coping with the sorrow.
Misery loves company though, so another thing I recommend to appreciate your situation is to open up a $5,000 heads up sng and watch some of the beats people take in those. Suddenly, the couple hundred dollars we lose/lost doesn’t seem like a big deal.
Theres hundreds of coping mechanisms. I said I was going to write an article about how to stay off tilt. Now I will have to write an article on coping mechanisms.
Thanks for checking back in and good luck in your new journey
