Saturday’s Results (Very Long Session)

1:51am: Well, I put in a lot of volume today because it had been a while since I had engaged in a long, dedicated session. With that being said, today was one big headache. Not because it was a bad session or anything, but rather because I should have finished up a lot more than I did. I finished 13-9 overall (59.1%) : 11-7 on Stars and 2-2 on Cake. However, 3-4 of those losses would have finished my way if certain hands would have held up. Some things to note: Cake players REALLY are as bad as advertised. Classic example: Blinds 25/50. I have about 650 in chips. Opponent has 1350. I look down, see AQ and think to myself “this guy is probably bad enough to call with like 10 9 off, or something similar” so I just open shove it. He calls and flips over 10 6 off, and proceeds to flop top two. I’ve seen some pretty bad stuff in having played 5,000 heads up matches in my life, but that one is definitely top 10 material.

As for the rest of the day, it was a mixed bag of good and bad. I got unlucky a handful of times. However, I will admit to getting really lucky ONCE. I had bottom two, all in.. dominated, as my opponent flips up top two. We got it all in, and I rivered the middle card giving me a full house. On the flip side, however, I can remember 4-5 times having someone all in, in a dominating situation (i.e AQ vs A2) and them hitting their card. For whatever reason, that kind of stuff has been following me all month, but today was the first day that I actually had some of the luck returned to me in exchange for the bad luck dealt to me.

Also, I’m not sure who this mystery player was who played me. In the middle of the match, he says “I’m watching your movie.” I won’t call him out in public, but he did play a good game - better than most of the people I play actually. And the last hand, the blinds were getting too high (75/150) - I had to loosen up, and it paid off as I unexpectedly had him dominated with J9 vs J8 and I flopped 9s full of Jacks. Anyways, it would be good to hear from you so we can discuss whether or not you’d like me to publish that match on here.

More tommorow…

Do Daily Trends Mean Anything?

12:05pm: Is there any truth to the theory that certain days are more profitable than others? That’s may be for you to decide, but let me present you with my case. Take a look at it and compare to your results. Here is a graph of both my profitability and ROI on each day of the week:

By looking at my graph, two days stick out at you: Thursday and Friday. Thursday stands out from a profitability standpoint. Meanwhile, Friday stands out from a return on investment standpoint. Why is that? Do people play more loose knowing they will get paid at the end of the week? Conversely, you can see the least profitable day of the week for me is Monday. This is a complaint that I have seen a lot of people have. One theory is that all of the regulars are out on Monday. But if that is the case, why aren’t results repeated for Tuesday and Wednesday (or even Thursday, since Thursday is, indeed, a weekday). The odd part about my graph is that only 3 days are different from the “norm”. Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday all have pretty much the same statistics, from a results standpoint. That leaves Monday, Thursday and Friday as the odd men out. Oddly enough, Thursday is also my most profitable day on Full Tilt Poker.

So what gives: is it a more focused, determined me on Thursdays, or is it a less focused, less determined opponent on this day? This is a very interesting question and I’d be very interested in knowing your results. To run this report by day of week, just click on “More Options” next to the third graph, then “Graph Results By”, and then “Day of Week”.
