It’s hard to describe exactly what’s going on right now, or to pinpoint a problem. After I wrote yesterday that things were getting better, they once again took a turn for the worse. I lost 4 straight games, and keep missing the flop OVER AND OVER again, seemingly with no end. Today the misery continued when I lost my first two matches. I have to admit I was pretty frustrated. I slammed the laptop door shut, and took some time to pull it together. After a 20-30 minute break, I regained my composure and gave it another shot. During these times when I run bad, sometimes I like to put in more volume. Not because I’m trying to “get even” or for tilt’ish reasons or anything - but because I know the more games I play the more the results even out in my favor. Despite the fact that I get frustrated post-game, I am still able to go into each heads up match with pretty much the same focus and conviction as the first one of the day. That’s something that’s really hard to do, and is something that I’ve picked up over the course of having played 5,000+ heads up matches across 5 different poker sites.

So with that being said, I decided to play 3 simultaneously the next time. First match went pretty much exactly way as everything had been going lately - I lost. The blinds were 50-100 and i had 8c6c, and my opponent min raised. When the blinds are this high, you don’t really have the leg room to be folding too many hands - so when I call a raise preflop during this stage of the match, I’m either going to play the flop extremely aggressive or fold. We both hit trips on the hand, however unfortunately I had a lower kicker, so I chalked it up as yet another bad beat. However, I pulled it together and won the other two.

Following these matches, I needed a short break once again to reset my brain. I took 20, and then loaded two more matches. After falling behind early 2000-1000 in BOTH matches, I came back to win each of them. So that’s where I stand now. I don’t know where this run is headed in the short term, but anytime I run like this I always glance at my sharkscope for reassurance that things will always, always turn around -and for that, I’m extremely thankful.

*EDIT* It’s 3:04am, and I just played two matches. First one I flopped a full house on the second hand, and I showed the guy when he folded, so he pretty much trusted me whenever I bet the rest of the match. I slowly grinded him down and won the match by just being aggressive and taking small pots from him. The second person wouldn’t go away so easy: twice I had him all in with the best hand, and he rivered me each of the times. Finally, when the blinds were 75-150, I had Kc9c and couldn’t afford to wait for anything better so I called his shove preflop, and to my delight had him dominated (K2off). My hand held up, and I have now won 6 in a row. However, like I said before, I can’t officially declare myself “out of the funk” yet until I peak past my previous high point on my sharkscope graph.

More later.
